Doug Smith was a motor Mechanic who operated a garage in Philip Street in Parramatta. He also repaired laundry appliances. During the late 60’s he began stocking basic parts for some common washing machines, and before long his service station garage stocked Simpson Fluid Drive main drive belts, right next to XF Falcon fan belts. Before long, other local washing machine technicians started coming to Doug’s garage to buy parts, because it was easier than trying to buy from the factories. Realising an opportunity, Doug focused on this new business and in 1969, Doug Smith Spares was born.
Doug Moved out of the business in 1981 due to ill health, but the business has continued strongly. Now, in 2019 – we find ourselves proudly celebrating our 50th year in business!
